The Nasher Museum of Art is the cornerstone of the arts at Duke University – an integral part of the Durham community. In early 2013, they came to Cuberis looking for a fresh post-modern design that would bring their web presence up to the level of other major art museums. Our main goal for the new design was to bring to life the beautiful space and give site visitors the feeling of being there, while keeping the visual design simple and cohesive. We worked with Nasher’s marketing department to create an information architecture that would allow visitors to find information with as few clicks as possible. In addition, we custom designed icons for the right side shortcut links, which are visible at all times on the site to direct users to the most sought-after information.
The new website is built in WordPress Multisite, allowing the Nasher to easily add WordPress mini-sites in the future for featured exhibitions. We also completely customized the WP admin panel to make it as simple as possible for Nasher staff to manage all of the content through an easy-to-use interface. Prominent on the home page is an HTML5 video and photo slideshow that the Nasher updates often with videos highlighting current events in the museum. Visitors can use the custom-built events calendar to see the assorted events for various audiences at a glance. The whole site is fully responsive, which allows all the pages to adjust for optimized viewing on mobile, tablet, and desktop.
